The Best Vegetables to Use in Chicken and Dumplings
Vegetables are crucial ingredients in chicken and dumplings, but not all vegetables will hold up well inside the soupy dish. We use chopped carrots and celery in this recipe, but plenty of other green vegetables would make delicious additions to your Easy Chicken and Dumplings. Try adding in chopped leeks, broccoli, cut green beans or sugar snap peas—all of these picks tend to cook well in the simmering liquid, adding a fresh and tasty touch to your savory meal. Yum!
How to Store Chicken and Dumpling Soup
Chicken and dumplings makes delicious leftovers, but we would not recommend freezing the entire dish after cooking. If you do want to freeze your meal for leftovers, we’d recommend removing the dumplings from the soup and freezing them separately from the liquid. When you’re ready to eat, thaw both the soup and the dumplings in the refrigerator completely before heating up the soup and then adding the dumplings. For even better results, try cooking a completely new batch of the biscuit dumplings to eat with your leftover soup. Either way, make sure to heat thoroughly!
