Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 medium sweet onion, chopped
- 1 medium red onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- Additional chopped fresh chives, if desired

Step1In 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium-low heat. Cook onions in butter 15 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until very soft and light golden brown. Add vinegar; cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat; cool completely, about 20 minutes.

Step2In medium bowl, mix sour cream, cream cheese, 2 tablespoons chives, the salt and pepper. Stir in caramelized onions. Serve immediately or refrigerate until serving time. Garnish with additional chives.
