Sweet spices and a wonderful sauce combine to create an easy version of a traditional holiday favorite. Consider serving these cocktail meatballs for your next appetizer buffet.

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 3/4 lb. ground pork
  • 1/3 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 eggs

Sauce

  • 1/3 cup margarine or butter
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons beef-flavor instant bouillon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 cups milk

Instructions

    Heat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, combine all meatball ingredients; mix well. Shape into 48 meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place meatballs in ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake at 350°F. for 55 to 60 minutes or until meatballs are well browned; drain.

    Melt margarine in large saucepan over low heat. Stir in flour, bouillon, 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon pepper. Cook 1 minute until smooth and bubbly, stirring constantly. Gradually stir in 4 cups milk. Cook over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add meatballs to sauce; keep warm.
