There are so many reasons to love an apple crisp: It makes the most of this season’s most beloved fruit. It’s a fall classic that comes together fast enough to satisfy a last-minute weeknight craving for dessert. And, as it bakes, it creates all those wonderful apple-pie-in-the-oven smells, without all the labor of making a crust. (Seriously, someone should make an apple crisp candle!)

This recipe is all that, plus an amazing hack—you make it in the slow cooker.

How do you slow-cook an apple crisp?

It’s so easy to make praline apple crisp in a slow cooker. In fact, this is almost a dump recipe. You just layer your apples in the bottom of the slow cooker, then sprinkle on the oatmeal topping—made with brown sugar, pecans, toffee and plenty of butter—put the lid on, set it and forget it. Time and the slow cooker will work their magic, and by the time dinner rolls around, you’ll have an amazing dessert.

What kind of apple do you use in Slow-Cooker Praline Apple Crisp?

For this apple crisp, we like to use a nice tart apple with a crisp bite, like Granny Smith or Braeburn. The recipe’s brown sugar and toffee bring out all the sweet-tart goodness in the apples. There’s just enough of the crispy topping to complement the soft apples and add a little crunchy texture.

Of course, like all crisps, Slow-Cooker Praline Apple Crisp tastes even better with a great big scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. This dish will make a delightful end to any weekday meal.
