The air fryer is the perfect appliance for making Brussels sprouts. It has truly transformed this once unpopular vegetable into one of the most popular veggies on the plate.

If your only experience with Brussels sprouts has been the mushy, grayish green, boiled version you were served in the school cafeteria, you need to take another look, or better yet a taste. This old-fashioned vegetable has gotten a brand-new look thanks to the hottest small appliance in the kitchen, the air fryer.

An air fryer cooks food more quickly and efficiently than your oven by swirling hot air around the food inside, much like a mini convection oven. When Brussels sprouts tossed with a little oil and seasoned with salt and pepper get the air fryer treatment, they come out crispy on the outside, with a creamy, tender center.

No more mushy Brussels sprouts for your family. These addictive little crispy bites will have you serving Brussels sprouts for dinner on a regular basis.

How to Make Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

Using the air fryer, and with just 5 minutes of prep time, you can get a delicious and nutritious vegetable on the dinner table in under 30 minutes. Air fryer Brussels sprouts are an easy way to get more vegetables into your diet, and with our recipe, it doesn’t get much easier. Take a look at our quick overview of how to cook Brussels sprouts in the air fryer, then read on for the full ingredients list and recipe.

Prepare the Brussels Sprouts

Toss the trimmed and halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Air Fry the Brussels Sprouts

Place the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer (no need to spray or oil the basket) and cook, shaking the air fryer basket halfway through, until you have the crispy Brussels sprouts of your dreams. It’s that easy!

Getting the Crispiest Brussels Sprouts in the Air Fryer

Crispy Brussels sprouts are all the rage on restaurant menus, but their crispiness is usually achieved with the help of a deep fryer. Luckily, you don’t have to fry Brussels in oil to get them ultra-crispy. An air fryer can give you close to the same results.

The trick to crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside air fryer Brussels sprouts is the time and temperature. If the temperature is too hot, the outside leaves will get browned and crispy before the inside is properly cooked, making them tough and unpleasant to eat. If the temperature is too low, the outside leaves won’t ever get the desired level of crispiness. We found that cooking the Brussels sprouts in the air fryer at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes was the key to the best crispy Brussels sprouts.

Storing Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts

While we like these crispy Brussels sprouts best hot out of the air fryer, you can successfully store and reheat any leftovers.

Leftover air fryer Brussels sprouts can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. To reheat, place in the air fryer and heat for 2 to 3 minutes at 375°F or until heated through.

We don’t recommend freezing them though, as their texture can become mushy in the freezing/thawing process.

If you like it hot, try dousing the crispy Brussels sprouts with your favorite hot sauce or Buffalo wing sauce. In the mood for something cheesy? Just sprinkle a little shredded Parmesan on the hot sprouts. Then drizzle a little balsamic vinegar over the top. Looking for a little sweet heat? Add some red pepper flakes to the Brussels sprouts before cooking, then, when they come out of the air fryer, drizzle them with a little honey.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Other Vegetables Can be Air Fried?

When it comes to air frying veggies, don’t stop at Brussels sprouts. You can cook almost any vegetable in the air fryer.

One of our favorites is the good old-fashioned potato. The air fryer is a great alternative to frying French fries. These air fryer rosemary potatoes couldn’t be easier or more delicious. Broccoli, carrots, peppers or even green beans can all be air fried. It’s never been easier to get more veggies on the table!

Can You Air Fry Frozen Brussels Sprouts?

The process of freezing and thawing Brussels sprouts can leave them on the mushy or water-logged side, which makes them difficult to get crispy. For this reason, we don’t recommend using frozen sprouts for this recipe.

How Do I Know the Brussels Sprouts are Cooked Through?

There’s nothing more disappointing than biting into a delicious looking crispy Brussels sprout and finding out it’s still raw on the inside.

An undercooked Brussels sprout is tough and unpleasant to eat, so making sure your air fryer Brussels sprouts are properly cooked throughout is an important part of the cooking process. While our air fryer Brussels sprouts recipe is designed to result in perfectly cooked sprouts, to ensure your sprouts are tender, insert the tip of a sharp knife into the middle of one. If it slides in easily, your sprouts are done.
